THE 2016 NYSSMA SOLO MUSIC FESTIVAL- CALHOUN INSTRUMENTAL FORM
NYSSMA Levels 1-6 (Non All-State)& Piano adjudications will take place @ Seaford M.S.: May 10-11.
NYSSMA All-State Level 6 adjudications will take place at Syosset High School: May 13-14.
NYSMMA All-State Jazz adjudications will take place at Valley Stream High School: May 20-21
NYSSMA Guitar adjudications will take place at Kellenberg High School: April 15-16
All musicians are eligible to participate in the NYSSMA festival. (Students wishing to audition for All-State must be in tenth or eleventh grade and must be a member in good standing of their High School performing group.) Students are given the opportunity to perform a prepared piece before a judge and receive a written evaluation and grade. These marks weigh heavily on their acceptance into All-County and All-State organizations for the following school year.
Music must be chosen from the current NYSSMA manual (2015, Edition 31), which is in every school music office. All students must register through the school music teacher. All music used at the festival must be original copies (photocopies are illegal). Remember, the judge needs an original copy of the music, too.
If your son/daughter is interested in participating, please fill out the form below and return it, along with the fee, to his/her school music teacher, no later than FEBRUARY 12, 2016. You will be informed approximately two weeks in advance as to when they have been scheduled to perform. Auditioners can request a specific day or time period (except for Vocal Jazz), but are NOT guaranteed that request and should be prepared to receive a slot at ANY time throughout the festival. Please note that NYSSMA fees are NOT REFUNDABLE.
There will be pianos or keyboards available accompanists. For all adjudications, students must arrange for their own accompanist or supply their own accompaniment tape or CD and their own tape or CD player, if applicable. Accompaniments that are downloaded from the Internet are acceptable if burned to a CD.
If your child has any special needs, request from, fill out, and return to your child's teacher, a Students with Disabilities Form. You or your child may ask Mr. Vivelo or Mr. Tumminelli for a form if you do not have access to one.
